THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, November 11, 2007.

Gladys Marie Halterman, 90, of Ames, died on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Riverside Manor in Ames. Memorial services will be at a later date.

Gladys Marie Halterman was born on Jan. 18, 1917, in Huxley to Sakarias and Bertha (Berhow) Torsdahl. She grew up in the Huxley area and attended school there. After doing waitress work, she spent three years at the Des Moines Ordinance Plant making ammunition during World War II. On March 17, 1940, she married Wendell Halterman They farmed north of Roland a number of years and later resided in Ames and Washington state. In 1990, they returned to Ames. She was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor. She enjoyed embroidering and writing poems.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Bette Rosheim, of Tama; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell, on June 25, 1995; one son Avery in 1995; and one sister, Bernice Larson.

Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services have been entrusted with arrangements.
