THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, November 3, 2007.
Betty Louise Drake, 82, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Las Vegas. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.
Betty Drake was born April 8, 1925, in rural Guthrie Country, the daughter of Robert and Josephine Brown. She attended Irwin schools and following her graduation, attended the State Teachers' College of Iowa (now the University of Northern Iowa), obtaining a teaching certificate in elementary education in 1945.
Betty married Dean Drake May 19, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Des Moines. They had one son, Rodney.
Betty taught elementary school in Tenant, Polk City and Ames. She also worked at the Beloit Children's Home in Ames and as a teacher's aide in the Ames public schools.
Betty was a member of the First Methodist Church in Ames for more than 50 years, as well as a member of the D.A.R., P.E.O. and International Rose O'Neill Association. She enjoyed traveling and went to Europe several times with her daughter-in-law, Marilyn.
Betty is survived her husband, Dean, one son, Rodney and his wife, Marilyn, all of Las Vegas; and her sister, Roberta Brown, of Nevada.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, of Irwin; and her sister, Virginia Dethlefs, of Manning.
