THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, November 2, 2007.

JoAnn A. Kathmann, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

JoAnn A. Kathmann was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Carroll. She graduated from St. Angela's Academy and lived in the Carroll area with her mother, Viola (Loneman), and her stepfather, Bill Hamilton, until 1949. She married James F. Kathmann June 15, 1949, in Carroll. They made their home in Ames, where she lived the remainder of her life. She assisted her husband in the Skateland Roller Rink and worked in sales at Campus Book Store. She was an avid bowler, winning many trophies. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 37.

She is survived by one son, William (Bill), his wife, Patricia (Patty), and three grandchildren, Lauren, David and Erin. She also is survived by one aunt, Dee Baumhover; one brother, Don Heithoff (Gilberta); and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her mother, Viola Hamilton; her stepfather, Bill Hamilton; and her longtime friend, Donna Cramer.

Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. The American Legion Auxiliary will present a short program.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
