Gerald "Slug" D. Coughenour, 71, of Ames passed away October 23, 2007. Jerry was born April 24, 1936 to Ray Coughenour and Cory Alice Oyler, in Collins, Iowa. He married Ruth Marie Britten June 4, 1982 in Ames, IA.
Jerry graduated in 1956 from Collins High School. He then pursued a career that spanned 30 plus years with the federal government, maintaining the federal grain storage sites and the National Animal Disease Lab located in Ames, IA. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge, and Grand Avenue Baptist Church. Jerry enjoyed dancing, football, and baseball. Jerry's greatest enjoyment was his children, grandchildren, and friends.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughters-in- law; Brad and Karen Coughenour, Athol, ID, stepsons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Leola Britten, Zearing, Alan Britten and Karen Combs, McCallsburg, stepdaughter Sharon Britten, Fulton, Mo., and daughter-in-law Bonnie Britten, Seattle, WA., 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, and stepson Kent.
Visitation was held on Mon. Oct. 29, at Adams Funeral Homes; Ames. Memorial services were on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Ames. Memorial donations can be made to the Israel Hospice House, Ames.
