Howard Keys Safly, 92, of Ames, Iowa, died Sunday, October 21, 2007, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Napier officiated by Pastor Margaret Aiseayew. A fellowship luncheon at the church will be followed by the burial in the Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.

Howard was born October 13, 1915, in Kenney, Illinois, to James Ferrel and Lettitia Mithilda (Johnson) Safly. He married Frances Rinnah McKim on July 28, 1935, in Nevada, Iowa. In addition to farming all of his life, he owned Safly Corn Shelling and Trucking. He was a longtime member of his church, enjoyed bowling league in Boone and served on the school board. Howard loved camping, his grandchildren, genealogy, and spending winters on South Padre Island.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of seventy-two years, Frances of Ames; three sons, Jim (Joyce), Jack (Julie) both of Ames, and Steve of Ridgeway, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Joel of Ft. Myers, Florida, Janet (Brian) Kilmer of Gilbert, Jason (Ann) of Lenexa, Kansas, Scott of Fraser, Todd (fiancée, Teresa) of Gilbert, Mathew (Myra) of Ankeny, Mark (Melanie) of North Liberty, and Doug Blomgren of Boone; nineteen great grandchildren; and Connie Safly of Ames.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, John, Ferrel and Milton; one sister, Inez Spencer; and granddaughter Julienne Blomgren.

There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to his church.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames has been entrusted with arrangements.
