NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 25, 2007.

MADRID - Deloras Leonard Grimm, 77, passed on to eternity on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Cedars Assisted Living in Madrid, Iowa.

Memorial Services were held Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Delores was born on August 9, 1930 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, to Paul Kenneth and Phoebe (Betz) Hurd. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1948. While in school she participated in music, band and cheerleading which developed into her life long love of sports. On February 27, 1949, Deloras married Myron "Mike" Leonard of Sergeant Bluff.

During her life, Deloras and Mike owned four bowling alleys. Their first was located in Sergeant Bluff followed by one in Nevada., Waverly and Marshalltown. Not only did she own and operate the alleys, but was a fantastic bowler as well. She set many women's records and attended the state finals numerous times. Deloras also ran the restaurants in the bowling alleys where it is still up for debate whether people came for the pie or the bowling! After 25 years of marriage with Mike, he lost his battle with cancer. Deloras herself was a 32 year cancer survivor which she considered a great accomplishment.

In June of 1982, Deloras married Robert Grimm and they enjoyed 11 years together.

Deloras will always be remembered by her family and friends as the woman who loved to give. Her grandchildren will never forget receiving the most beautifully wrapped Christmas and birthday gifts. She loved spoiling them. Her greatest pride came from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Deloras is survived by her daughters, Connie Nelson of Nevada, Iowa and Deb (Tom) Harlander of Shoreview, Minnesota; granddaughter, Jamie (Charles) Carsrud of Nevada, Iowa; grandsons: Jeffrey (Nicole) Nelson, Cleveland, Ohio; James Robie (Kira) Nelson of Roland, Iowa; Nicholas Harlander; Zachary Harlander and Timothy Harlander of Shoreview, Minnesota; great grandchildren: James, Phoebe, William, Annika and Jack; sisters: Georgann Jones of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Shirley Baker of Sioux City, Iowa and their families.

Deloras was preceded in death by her parents Paul Kenneth and Phoebe Hurd; husbands: Myron Leonard and Robert Grimm; brother Kenneth Hurd and sister Marjorie Hurd; son-in-law James Nelson and grandson, Michael Nelson.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
