Catherine Craven, 65, of Ames, died Tuesday, Oct. 23. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Catherine Rae Craven, 65, of Ames, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Catherine Craven was born May 11, 1942, in Ames, to Carlyle and Ruth (Crump) Peterson. She graduated from Ames High School in 1960. She married Virgil Craven Sept. 16, 1960. She held bookkeeping and kitchen staff positions with several companies both prior to and after raising her family.

She was a member of Boone County Historical Society and Story County Nomads camping club. She was an avid collector and country music fan, loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing bingo.

She is survived by two daughters, Melanie (Kent) Stiles, of Des Moines, and Connie (Carl) Chumos, of Ames; one son, Steve (Darci) Craven, of Des Moines; and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Taylor and Michael Chumos and Curtis and Jolynne Craven. All will greatly miss her kindness, generosity and sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2004; infant brother, Phillip; and brother, Dennis Peterson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
