Adel Marquette Throckmorton, 77, of Ames, died Sunday, Oct. 21, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Collegiate United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Linda Butler officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Adel Marquette Throckmorton was born May 1, 1930, in Burchard, Neb., to Elijah and Ada (Bass) Throckmorton. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a teacher at Y.J.B. Community Schools, retiring in 1994. After retirement from teaching, he was a rural mail carrier in the Ames area.
He was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church, American Legion, V.F.W., Laura Chapter Eastern Star, Judea White Shrine, Friendship Court Amaranth, Arcadia Lodge No. 249, York Rite and Story County Shriners. He enjoyed writing poems.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Aletha Jeanne Throckmorton; three nephews, Terry (Judith Ann), Dick (Pat) and Kevin (Missy); one niece, Cindy (Jim) Bruggeman; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday Oct. 25, with a Masonic Service at 5:30 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
