John J. Murray, 65, formerly of Ames, died today at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Homes.

John J. Murray, 65, formerly of Ames, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at The Cottage Church on D41 in rural Buckeye. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

John J. Murray was born Sept. 2, 1942, in Des Moines, to John and Thelma (Wagley) Murray. He worked as a printer at the Department of Transportation in Ames.

He is survived by three sons, Lyle (Cindy) Murray, of Iowa Falls, Jeff (Silke) Murray, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Andy (Laura) Murray, of Story City; two daughters, Michele Thamke, of Iowa Falls, and Sara Anne Clabaugh and her friend Kevin McGonigle, of Jewell; his ex-wife, Flo Murray, of Jewell; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sandra Owings, of Ozark, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glen; and one brother-in-law, David Owings.

Visitation will be prior to the service at the church.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is in charge of arrangements.
