Galen Frederick "Fritz" Stratton, of Ames, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Galen Stratton was born May 11, 1920, to Glen and Rose (Jensen) Stratton. He married Lois Eloise Brownfield March 24, 1943. He grew up and farmed in Richland Township. In 1939, the family moved to a farm in Milford Township. In 1945, he and Lois moved to a farm in Grant Township a mile west of Nevada on old Highway 30. He farmed there until he retired in 1982. After retirement, he lived in the Rookwood and Tullemore Glen additions in Ames.
He is survived by two sons, Gary, of Hudson, and Gale (Kae), of Nevada; two sisters, Jeanne Stratton-Painter and Garnett Morris, both of Des Moines; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, on March 6, 2006; one brother, Arthur; one daughter-in-law, Maxine Stratton; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Stratton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family or Ames Public Library.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
