Cyril Francis Lengeling, 88, of Collins, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A private family gathering will be at a later date.

Cyril Francis Lengeling was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Breda, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Olberding) Lengeling. He graduated from St. Bernard High School in Breda and attended Iowa State University. He married Roberta Jean Kimberley, of Collins. He farmed in Jasper, Story and Polk County. He was a veteran, having served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a radio operator in the Philippines.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, American Legion Post No. 534 of Mingo for 59 years, Collins Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed pheasant, deer and turkey hunting, along with fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Lengeling, of Collins; three sons, Dave Lengeling, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Paul (Laura) Lengeling, of Collins, and John (Tracy) Lengeling, of Des Moines; two daughters, Sue (Tom) Lomp, of Collins, and Martha (Manuel) Lengeling, of Guanajuato, Mexico; eight grandchildren, Mark Lomp (Jill Magnani), Adrienne Lomp, Ashley Lengeling, Benjamin Sanchez Lengeling, Thomas Sanchez Lengeling, Gabriel Sanchez Lengeling, Merisa Lengeling and Kristin Lengeling. He is also survived by one brother, Delbert Lengeling, of Carroll, and one sister, Imelda Thams, of Dennison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Zachary Lengeling; three brothers, Irwin, Delmar and Vincent; and one sister, Lorene Womer.

The family requests memorials to Peoria Cemetery Association or Camp Hertko Hollow Iowa's Camp for Children with Diabetes.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
