Gwendolyn Cakerice Albright, 86, of Ames, died Monday, Sept. 17, at Northcrest Care Center in Ames. Visitation will be at 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Northcrest Community, 1801 20th St. A memorial service also will be at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at noon, Thursday, Sept. 20, at Ivester Church of the Brethren, 25056 E Ave., in Grundy County. Burial will be in Eldora City Cemetery.
Gwendolyn Cakerice Albright was born March 12, 1921, at the Cakerice farm in Grundy County, to I.L. and Alice (Turner) Cakerice. She received a teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa and a bachelor's degree from Drake University. She married Miles Albright July 4, 1944, in Eldora.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of the Iowa Teachers Association.
She is survived by her husband, Miles Albright; one daughter, Vicki Albright, and her husband, David Wilcox; two granddaughters, Sarah Wilcox-Hughes and Katharine Wilcox; and two great-granddaughters, Etta Hughes and Kaia Love.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Lorraine; her parents; and siblings, Mildred Newell, Cecile Button, John Cakerice and Irvin Cakerice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Heartwood House Endowment of Northcrest Foundation.
