Funeral of Young Farmer is Held From Bergen Church on Friday Afternoon. Had Been Sick For Many Years and Death Came As Relief to Sufferer

George Theodore Quam was born March 10 1873 near Norway, La Salle County, Ill. and died at his home five miles northwest of Roland on Wednesday, June 8, 1910 being 37 years, 5 months and 28 days when called to the Great Beyond. When about fifteen years of age, he came to Iowa with his mother Mrs. Thea Quam, who still lives here and he has since made this community his home. For several years he was sickly and a few years ago underwent a very serious operation, from which it was not expected he would rally, but he improved slowly and since that time was able to be around until last fall and gradually declined until death relieved him of his suffering. The cause of his death was tuberculosis and messentery.

On October 15, 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Sjurson, to which union two children were born, who with their mother now mourn the death of a kind husband and father. Besides these he leaves his mother, Mrs. Thea Quam, and four brothers, John, Ed, Willie and Luther Quam of near this place, Porter Quam of Pinestone, Minn. and a half brother David Niter, of near Leland, Ia. All his brothers were present at the funeral services which were held from Bergen church at two o'clock on Friday afternoon Rev G. Smedal officiating, many friends being present to pay their last tribute to the dead. Interment took place at the Roland cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in the our of their bereavement.
