BUSINESS MAN DIES SUDDENLY
-----
Well known Druggist Dies at His Home in Roland After Only a Few Hours Illness. Had been in Poor Health For Some Time. But Had of Late Been Attending to His Business.
-----J. H. Eide a well known druggist of this place, died at six o'clock on Friday morning June 10, 1910, the news coming as a shock to the community as he was seen at his store just before supper the preceeding day. Mr. Edie had been taken sick with a rheumatic ailment last fall and for many weeks was confined to his home, but the past months had been able to attend to his store. On Friday morning at about two o'clock, he became sick and Dr. Rice was called, after which he seemed to be better and shortly before six o'clock he rose and opened the doors and windows, presumably feeling short of breath and he went over to a couch and in a few minutes expired. Dr. Rice was called immediately, but life was already extinct, the cause of his death being fatty degeneration of the heart.
John Henry Eide was born in Eide, Jondall, Bergens Stift, Norway on December 5, 1852 and was 57 years, 6 months and 5 days old when so suddenly taken away. He left Norway at the age of seventeen as a sailor and traveled as such over many parts of the world, finally stopping at Paris, France, where he was married to a French lady. After a few years she died.
During the time that the French Panama Canal Co. was operating, Mr. Eide had several thousand dollars invested, which he lost when that company failed. About fifteen years ago he came directly here from Paris and after a short time secured a position with a drug firm at Nevada where he stayed some time, after which he came here and opened a restaurant until a few years ago when he opened a drug store which he has since been conducting. Shortly after his arrival here, he married Miss Christine Henderson to which union two children were born, who with their mother are now mourning the death of their father. They are Alexander and Victor.
The funeral was held from Bergen church on Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Smedal officiating after which the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. The sorrowing family are extended the sincere sympathy of their many friends, in the hour of their bereavement.
