Lawrence Fay "Larry" Avey, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 18, at Dallas County Hospital in Perry. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at the home of Eric and Shelly Mathre, 2060 Owl Ave., in Woodward. Private committal services will be at a later date in Union Cemetery in Clarke County.

Larry Avey was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Adair County, to William Carl and Ruth Melissa (Putney) Avey. He owned and operated Avey's Amoco in Ames for more than 30 years. He had resided in Story County for more than 50 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, watching birds and horseback riding.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Avey; five children, Rick (Mary) Avey, Robin (Terry) Witzke, Shelly (Eric) Mathre, Cindy (Mark) Ihle and Rob (Melissa) Pritchard; one brother, Ralph (Carol) Avey; one sister, Violet Templeman; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid is in charge of arrangements.
