Doris Schaeffer, 86, of Ames, died Friday, Aug. 17, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Nevada.

Doris Schaeffer was born June 9, 1921, in Gilliam, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Frances (Meyer) Borges. She graduated from Gilliam High School in 1939. She married Ernest M. Schaeffer Feb. 18, 1952, in Slater, Mo. He preceded her in death June 5, 2005. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and canning. She loved her family, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames.

She is survived by three children, Kathy (John) Romitti, of Madrid, Ernest L. Schaeffer, of Ames, and JoAnn (Randal) Kalkwarf, of Roland; four grandchildren, Melissa Kalkwarf, Kristina Kalkwarf, Jacob Kalkwarf and Kaitlyn Romitti; one great-granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Kalkwarf; and one brother, Louis Borges, of Marshall, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven sisters; and one brother.

A Christian vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Visitation will follow the vigil service and continue until 8:30 p.m.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
