Esther Knowlton, 79, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 18. She had been a resident at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone since June 2005. She formerly was of Wichita, Kan., Harrisonville, Mo., LaMonte, Mo., and Oxford, Kan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at West Link Christian Church in Wichita, Kan., with burial at 2 p.m. the same day in Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Kan.

Esther Marcella Page was born July 11, 1928, in Silver Lake, Kan., to Eston and Rhoda (Hofmann) Page. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1946 and from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., in 1966. She married Richard Leon Knowlton Sept. 11, 1949, in Rossville, Kan. She was a farm wife and a teacher. She taught rural school in Kansas in the 1950s, then sixth grade and kindergarten for the 12 years that their family lived in Harrisonville, Mo., from 1966 to 1978. She and Dick moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1978, where they resided until June 2005, when they moved to Iowa to be closer to family.

In Wichita, she was an active member of West Link Christian Church, Bible Study Fellowship and Prairie Bloomers Garden Club. She enjoyed volunteering and craft projects. Dick and Esther enjoyed trips in their fifth-wheeler and she loved taking pictures of mountains and trains. She did a number of canvas paintings and enjoyed painting on saws and saw blades. She particularly enjoyed sharing her talents with others.

She is survived by her husband of almost 58 years, Dick, of Ames; one daughter, Dixie Knowlton Day and husband, Al, of Ames; two sons, Matt Knowlton and wife, Kathy Doisy, of Columbia, Mo., and Chris Knowlton, of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Mary Ellen Clay and husband Calvin, of Onaga, Kan.; five grandchildren, Kelly Day (Dan) Conner, Jamie Day (Miles) Morgan, Jessica Knowlton (Logan) Aguilar, Michael Knowlton and Stephen Knowlton; and three great-granddaughters, Moriah, Avery and Isabel Conner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Cochran Mortuary, 1411 N. Broadway, in Wichita, Kan.

Memorials may be given to West Link Christian Church Building Fund, 2001 N. Maize Road, Wichita, KS 67212.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone is assisting Cochran Mortuary of Wichita, Kan., with arrangements.
