AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 1, 2007.

July 25, 1916-July 31, 2007

Margaret Eleanor (Butler) Paulson, 91, long-time Ames resident, died Tuesday, July 31, at Green Hills Retirement Community. A remembrance service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Ames First United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Margaret Eleanor (Butler) Paulson was born July 25, 1916, to James LeRoy and Evalena (Hattery) Butler. She graduated from Ames High School in 1934 and married Lavern C. Paulson in August 1940. Over the years in Ames, she and Lavern cared for elderly parents and raised five children. She was an active lifelong member of Ames First Methodist Church. She worked at Iowa State University for more than 25 years. She was an avid quilter and bridge player and also enjoyed knitting and handicrafts.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Lavern, and their five children, Alice Paulson, of Branson, Mo., Anita (Jehu) Layfield, of Milford, Del., Jo Ann Paulson, of Milford, Del., Mary (Brad) Bogenrief, of Branson, Mo., and Greg (Lynn) Paulson, of Arden, N.C. She will be missed by her nine surviving grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bonnie Mortensen, of Ballston Lake, N.Y., and Esther VandenOever, of King City, Ore.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jehu Timothy Layfield; one sister, Wilma (Butler) Davis; and one brother, Ellis Butler.

Memorial donations may be made to Homeward Hospice of Mary Greeley Medical Center, First United Methodist Church or Green Hills Retirement Fund.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
