Robert L. Morrison, 83, of Ames, died today. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Robert L. Morrison, 83, of Ames, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with Pastor Bob Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 37.

Robert L. Morrison was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Mason City, to Zebulon and Anna (Knutson) Morrison. He was a graduate of Ames High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree in theater arts and radio broadcasting from the University of Iowa.

He married Betty Jean Paul Jan. 25, 1945, in Fresno, Calif. After his military service ended, he worked in radio broadcasting in Burlington, and then was employed by WOI television in Ames as a producer-director in the 1950s. Among the many productions he directed was the children's show, "The Magic Window." He later was employed as a Right-of-Way agent at the Iowa DOT from 1957 to 1989. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping and fishing as well as playing golf and tennis.

He is survived by four sons, Robert, Richard (Maxine) and Ronald, all of Ames, and Brian, of Coralville; two daughters, Sandra (Wayne) Cleveland, of Iowa City, and Caroline Morrison, of Ames; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in 2006; two brothers, Donald and Clarence; and three sisters, Stella Myers, Dora Christofferson and Hazel Durrell.
