Mildred Clarice Thompson, age 89, of Osage, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Mildred was born April 21, 1917, at Story City, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Mabel (Thompson) Mathiason. She graduated from Story City High School in 1935. On March 12, 1941, Mildred married Charles T. Thompson in Story City, Iowa. They farmed in the Story City area until they moved to Eldora, Iowa, where they farmed and lived for 16 years. They later moved to Osage, where they continued to farm. Mildred was an active participant in their farming operation. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid. Mildred and Charles also worked as custodians at the church. She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and flowers, cooking, reading, and needlework. Mildred loved her grandchildren, and they will miss her scalloped corn, mashed potatoes, and kringla.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian officiating. Burial was at the Story City Cemetery in Story City at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mildred is survived by two daughters, Patricia Maas of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Linda Thompson of Mason City; a son, Steven Thompson of Osage; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Celia (Arlon) Nessa of Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles T. Thompson in 1997; an infant son, Charles Steven Thompson; a brother, Emery Mathiason; and a son-in-law, Ronald Maas.
