Thelbert "Ted" Skeie, age 82, of Radcliffe, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 at Hubbard Care Center Inc. in Hubbard.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Burial was at the Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe.
Thelbert was born Sept. 24, 1924, at home on a farm north of Garden City, Iowa, to Theodore and Raynellie (Maley) Skeie. Ted attended grade school in Garden City. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1942.
On June 11, 1946, he married Doris Lorraine Skogerboe. They first lived on a farm near Garden City. In December of 1947, they moved to a farm north of Radcliffe, and it continues to be home. Last spring they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Ted has been a farmer and carpenter all of his life. After retirement, he continued to help with harvest as long as he could. Ted and Doris also operated a furniture refinishing shop on their farm for 20 years. Their enjoyment of refinishing antiques and hunting for treasures at flea markets led to an antique business in Iowa Falls until December 2003.
Besides being active in the church and the CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), Ted and Doris enjoyed being members of Sons of Norway since 1982. Many of those years they served as officers. In 1995 and in 1985, they were king and queen. They were grand marshals in the 2004 Radcliffe Days Parade.
Because of declining health, Ted moved to the Hubbard Care Center in June of 2005. He enjoyed the company of his friends and the staff. He died there Wednesday morning, Nov. 8, 2006, surrounded by family. His children and grandchildren were the center of his life and attentions. He often said, "My children are my investments and my grandchildren are my dividends."
He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Diana (Rick) Erickson, Rita (Al) Dirk, Wanita Kueter, Randy (Crystal) Skeie and Tammy (Dan) Kumrow; grandchildren, Eric Erickson, Chad (Denise) Dirkx, Lisa (Andy) Jordan, Kelli (Curt) Binder, Rachel Escalona, Tami (Sean) Beachem, Jamie (Kimberly) Skeie, Sara (Tim) Velander, Michelle Kumrow, Jill Kumrow, and Tiffany (Eric) Mueller; brother-in-law, Ron Skogerboe, 12 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
