THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

Sept. 1, 1912-July 24, 2007

Ionia Dykstra, 94, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, July 24, at home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, at the Maxwell Christian Church with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Burial will be in Graham Cemetery in Mingo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

Ionia Waneitta Baldwin Dykstra was born Sept. 1, 1912, to Jacob Frederick and Katherine Elizabeth Baldwin on her parent's farm northwest of Mingo. She attended and graduated from the Mingo School. As a very young teenager, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. Soon after her conversion, her father told her he would provide piano lessons for her if she would promise to use this talent for the Lord in the church. This she promised her dad she would do and she played for many churches, Bible schools, youth groups, weddings and memorial services for family and friends. She married Cye Dykstra in June 1934 on her parent's farm. They adopted a son, Arlen Ross Dykstra, in March 1942.

In 1961, Ionia began teaching piano and later added organ lessons. Ionia loved life, her family, God's great creation, her flowers and garden and the young people who frequently visited her home.

Left to mourn her passing are one son, Arlen (Nancy) Dykstra; grandson, Benjamin Lee; two great-granddaughters, Danielle and Whitney; one niece; one nephew; and many friends.

Her husband, Cye; parents, Jake and Katie; grandson, Kristopher Kenneth; sister, Lucille; and special family friend, Arthur Tobin, preceded her in death.

Ionia put into practice in her daily life Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Blessed be her memory.

Memorials may be made to the Maxwell Christian Church.
