John Nicholas Herrick, 60, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Saturday, June 2. A memorial service was June 5 at Colorado House in Colorado Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Ames, with inurnment in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
John Nicholas Herrick was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Ames, the son of Dr. John and Gwen Herrick. Prior to his move to Colorado, he lived in California and Fairfield.
Nicholas attended St. Cecilia's Catholic School, graduated from Ames High School in 1965, Iowa State University in 1970 and law school at the University of Kansas in 1974. He was a member of ROTC at ISU and was honorably discharged from active duty from Fort Ord, Calif., in 1976. He also was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at ISU.
In earlier years, he worked in the financial service industry and most recently was employed by United Way in Colorado Springs.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Joyce Rodenborn, Jody Trail, Gregg Kreamer, Dirk Kreamer, Jim, Jeff, Scott Kreamer, Jeni Szatkowski, Jerry, Julie Buhrow, Ann Ferguson, Jackie Dummer, and Beth Pipitone; and nieces, nephews and many friends who will greatly miss him and his ready smile.
He was preceded in death by his father, John; his mothers, Gwen and Joan; and his sister, Mary Francis.

Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
