NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 7, 2007.

Ralph Edward Mehlisch, 76, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, June 4, 2007 following a prolonged battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9, at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, near State Center with burial at Hillside Cemetery. The visitation will also be at the church on Friday, June 8, from 5-7 PM. Estel-Perrin Funeral Home & Crematory is caring for Mr. Mehlisch and his family. Ralph was born December 2, 1930 near Zearing, Iowa to Ada Hannusch Mehlisch and Martin Mehlisch Jr. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church where he was still a member and had held several offices including elder, trustee, and head usher. He attended St. John's parochial school and a country school near his home. He was a member of the Nevada American Legion and had been a Sherman Township trustee for a number of years. Ralph was married to Dorothy Becker at St. John's Lutheran Church on August 6, 1950. They made their home on a farm near Zearing, Iowa, became the proud parents of four beautiful daughters, and continued farming until 1996 when they retired and moved to Colo, Iowa. Ralph served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He loved farming, thoroughly enjoyed a good game of cards or dice, and cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Ralph will be missed by his wife Dorothy, daughters Pamela (Joseph) Gogerty of Algona, Donna Riese of Ames, Linette (David) Mace of Ankeny, Arleen (Michael) Saunders of Colo, fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A sister Helen Healy of Bull Head City, Arizona also survives as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
