Nancy Helen (McAtee) Haas, 72 of Eldora died on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames after a struggle with lung cancer. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 16 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Nancy was born on November 8, 1934 in Iowa City to Arlo and Bessie (Larson) McAtee. She was raised and attended school in Nevada. On December 11, 1950, Nancy married N. Kurt Haas in Marshalltown. To this union, 2 children were born, Amy Gray and Allen Haas. Nancy received her L.P.N. degree in 1969 from Scott Community College in Davenport. In 1980, she obtained her R.N. degree from Iowa Valley Community College in Marshalltown. She spent her entire adult life as a care giver which gave her much joy. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver and a great lover of cats and dogs.
Nancy is survived by her husband Kurt; a daughter, Amy (Brian) Gray and a son, Allen (Rosanne) Haas, all of Eldora; 3 Grandsons, Jeffrey, Austen, and Kurt C. Haas; 4 Step grandchildren, Alexis Van Der Linden and Michaela, Zachary, and Maliya Gray; 3 sisters, Veletta (Gene) Poush of Nevada, Jeannie (Darrell) Starbuck of Ames, and Judy Rasmussen of Grand Island, Nebraska; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Darrell D. McAtee, a sister, Beverly Boyd, nephews Dayton Starbuck and Terry Boyd, a niece Diana Sage, and great niece Tia Lynn Poush.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 15 with the family present at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Memorials may be directed to the family.
