Walter E. Eichner, 90, of Ames, died Tuesday, May 15, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Van Meter United Methodist Church in Van Meter, with Pastor Judith Bunyi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery at St. Charles.

Walter E. Eichner was born March 24, 1917, at Madison County, to Fred and Susie (Pritchard) Eichner. He married Florence Faith Downs March 9, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Van Meter. He had lived and farmed in Lee Township of Madison County his entire life until moving to Ames in November 2006.

Eichner is survived by his wife, Florence Eichner, of Ames; children, Don (Mary) Eichner, of Ames, Dennis (Susan) Eichner, of Ames, and Mary Ellen (Michael) Perry, of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a brother, Harry Eichner.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Van Meter United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel and Funeral Services in Winterset.
