Ellen Marie Snider, 94, of Madrid, died Sunday, April 29, at Madrid Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, with the Rev. Donald Dovre officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.
Ellen Marie Snider was born Nov. 13, 1912, in Cedar Rapids, to George and Marie (Yetmar) Borghart. She married Darrell Snider Nov. 13, 1944, in Ames. She was a homemaker. Prior to her marriage, she was a journalist for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. She also worked for Central Iowa Farm Business Association.
She was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church and the Czech Museum of Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Oriett), of Huxley; three daughters, Marilyn L. Shanewise, of Cary, N.C., Rae Ellen Burtis, of Streamwood, Ill., and Jacqueline Darlene (Roy) Greene, of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren, Darrell (Brooke) and Kevin Greene, Karina and Rebecca Snider, Stephanie and Michelle Shanewise, and Rob and Ryan Burtis; and two great-grandchildren, Trinity Ellen Greene and Tabor Buckland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Donald Snider; three brothers, Clarence, George and Charles Borghart; and two sisters, Laura Borghart and Esther Williams.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, May 4, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
