Thomas Eugene Conner Norris, 54, died peacefully Sunday, April 29, at home in Ames of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He had been ill for two years. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Tom Norris was born March 17, 1953, in Des Monies, to Clifford and Mary D. Norris. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1971 and from Iowa State University in 2005. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He married Susan Norris Aug. 5, 1978. He worked as a merchandise manager for J.C. Penney in several locations in Iowa and Wisconsin. More recently, he worked in Ames for Beacon Microcenter and Hach Chemical.

His passions were raising his four sons and producing, directing and performing in community theater in Ames. He was the executive director for four years of Searching for Shakespeare, a non-profit group that produces the works of William Shakespeare in Ames parks and other venues. He was a member and past president of the Ames Community Arts Council and was assistant director of the Ames Middle School Drama Club in 2005.

He is survived by four sons, James, of Los Angeles, Christopher, of Venice, Calif., Mark, of Iowa City, and Tom, of Ames; his former wife of 27 years, Susan Norris; his mother, Mary D. Norris, of Weems, Va.; one sister, Kathleen Dollar Conroy; two brothers, James Michael and John Patrick Dollar; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford L. Norris.
