THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 1, 2007.

Eugene L. Heintz, 78, died Wednesday, April 25. Funeral services were April 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, Ill. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ill., with full military honors.

Eugene L. Heintz was born May 15, 1928, in Nevada, to Lewis and Nellie Gunn Heintz. He was a 1954 graduate of Iowa State College with a bachelor's degree. in agriculture. He was commissioned second lieutenant from the ROTC program at Iowa State. He served in the Korean War as an artillery officer. He married Veronica Rybout Oct. 21, 1961, in Macomb, Ill.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Chris (Kim) Heintz and John "Nick" (Jodi) Heintz; one daughter, Ann (Richard) Sowlles; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, F. W. (Marge) Heintz, of Ames, and Joseph Dale (Josephine) Heintz, of Nevada; one sister, Mary (Victor) Chernivsky; one brother-in-law, Ted (Wanda) Rybout; and 28 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, Ill., or the charity of the donor's choice.
