Edna Arthama Searcy, 86, of Slater, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 22. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Slater Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Michaelsen officiating.

Edna Searcy was born June 11, 1920, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Bert and Carrie (Piatt) Mangel. Raised in a Christian home, she placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. She married Merton R. Searcy Feb. 3, 1946, in Abilene, Texas. They moved to Sheldahl in 1958 and to Slater in 1984. They were charter members of Slater Baptist Church, where she was involved in teaching Sunday school, Awana and the Ladies Missionary Fellowship.

She is survived by her husband, Merton Searcy, of Slater; one son, David Searcy, of Slater; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Other family members include one niece, Nita Holstine, of Hawley, Texas; and three sisters-in-law, Corrinne Johnson, of Des Moines, Maxine Becthel, of Des Moines, and Georgia Hammond, of Tulare, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Carroll; and two sisters, Dorothy Emmerson and Mildred Jones.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Israel Family Hospice of Ames.
