TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 5, 2007.

Stella M. Carley, 91, of Huxley, died March 27 in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was born in Cambridge on Feb. 22, 1916, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Johnson) Birkestrand.

She was a sales auditor for Younkers. She was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church and a longtime community member.

Survivors include one son, Mark (Pat) Carley of Marshalltown; two daughters, Sandra Carley of Las Vegas, Nev., and Karolyn Grosnickle of Victorville, Calif.; one sister, JoAnne Gregg of Decorah; one brother, Clifford Birkestrand of Huxley; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arnold and John.

Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with Pastor Tom Hilger officiating. Burial was in the Fjeldberg Cemetery.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home, Slater, was in charge of arrangements.
