Robert L. Ruby, 72, of Ames, died Sunday, March 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Robert L. Ruby was born May 29, 1934, in Storm Lake, to Marion and Annabelle (Hemm) Ruby. He was a graduate of Nevada High School and attended AIB. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 31 years.

He married Darlene Lambourn Oct. 12, 1957. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and enjoyed being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Ruby, of Ames; three children, Kevin (Susan) Ruby, of Roland, Kurtis (Cindy) Ruby, of Rochester, Minn., and Carmen (Roger) Vigdal, of Spirit Lake; two sisters, Beverly Hill, of Ames, and Norma Jean Gammerdinger, of Fort Dodge; 11 grandchildren, Charles, Nick, Nick, Stephanie, Joe, Andrew, Allison, Christal, Jason, Emily and Andrew; and five great-grandchildren, Allison, Jacob, Chase, Stormy and Mackenzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 29, at Adams Funeral Home.
