Grace Frette, 93, of Webster City and formerly of Story City, died Saturday, Feb. 17, of pneumonia/congestive heart failure at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow in Story City Cemetery.
Grace Ethelyn Reed was born, first child of four, Feb. 9, 1914, in Rose Grove Township, Hamilton County, Iowa, to Earl Henry and May Josephine (Rierson) Reed. After attending rural schools in Hamilton County and Swift County, Minn., she graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1931. She attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls from 1931-32. From 1933-35, she taught rural schools in Rose Grove and Buckeye Townships in Hamilton County. She married (Melvin) Roy Frette Nov. 28, 1935. The couple farmed in the rural Radcliffe area until 1972 when they retired to Story City. Five children were born to this union: Geraldine, Ronald, Dennis, Keith and Elaine.
Roy died March 5, 2001. In January 2005, Grace moved from her home in Story City to Crestview Apartments in Webster City, where she resided until the time of her death.
Grace was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and fellowship with family and friends. She kept a daily diary, wrote poetry, did family genealogy and kept many photo albums.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Pat) and Dennis (Jolene), both of Ames, and Keith (Nancy), of Sioux City; two daughters, Geraldine Peterson and Elaine (Larry) Brim, both of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Eugene Reisetter; one sister-in-law, Arlene (Thompson) Reed; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; an infant brother, Ray; one brother, Ralph; one son-in-law, John Peterson; and one great-granddaughter, Erin Peterson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
