AMES - Jim Henderson, 79, passed away at Heartwood House, Ames on February 6, 2007, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Illinois and lived most of his life in the south suburbs of Chicago. He was a plumbing contractor in the family plumbing business.
He is survived by his former wife, Betty Henderson of Iowa; sons Jim and wife Ann of California, Jon of Colorado, Kim of California, daughter, Nancy and husband Bill Tucker of Iowa; nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister Ann (Ed) Brink of Illinois and a brother Tim Henderson of Indiana.
His parents Jim and Lelah Henderson preceded him in death.
Jim will be remembered for his big smile and sense of humor. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan, preparing food for large gatherings of family and friends, solving mechanical problems and helping others.
According to his wishes he will be cremated and his family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
The family expresses grateful appreciation to the staff at Heartwood House for the love, care and joy given Jim over the past two years, and to Pastor Jim Roth of the Colo Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Heartwood House Endowment at the Northcrest Community at 1801 20th St., Ames, IA 50010 or the Colo United Methodist Church, 602 4th St., Colo, IA 50056
