THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 8, 2007.

Feb. 8, 1965-Feb. 5, 2007

Ronald Dean "Ron" Wilhelm, 41, died suddenly Monday, Feb. 5, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, in West Des Moines, of which he was a member. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the church. Graveside and committal services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Liberty Cemetery, north of Woodward.

Ronald Dean "Ron" Wilhelm was born Feb. 8, 1965, in Manchester. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in finance and became a partner in Metabolic Technologies Inc. in Ames. Because of his multifaceted business skills, he became president of the company.

He disliked the traditional business suit. He loved to be at work, in the office and the lab with his sleeves rolled up and dedicated time for his other passions, which included hunting, fishing and tilling the soil on his farm. He loved spending time with and caring for his mother, his sisters, his nieces and his many friends. In the morning, he would talk with a friend about farming, at noon discuss protein metabolism and in the afternoon, converse about how best to hunt pheasants. He cared deeply about his family and friends and was always someone to count on when help was needed. He didn't need to be asked, he just showed up to help a friend. His warmth and caring was not buried deep but was easily expressed in laughter, his big grin, words, hugs and tears. His curiosity and caring for others was unlimited.

These passions consumed his life until September 2001, when he met Amanda Neff. Ron's eyes lit up when he was around her, and he grinned even more easily in her presence. He still loved to be in the field smelling cut grass, but more and more wanted to be with Amanda. Their love grew and they married. Abigail was born in November 2005. His marriage and fatherhood thrilled him and filled his heart with joy.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Amanda; their daughter, Abigail; and three sisters, Pam (Dan) Caffrey, of Indianola, Cindy (Kirt) Walker, of Columbus, Ohio, and Denise Wilhelm, of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Kimpston.

He will be missed by his family and many friends. We all should remember his easy laugh and grin, his sincere caring for others, his honesty and his love for people and nature.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made in the name of Ron's daughter, Abigail, to the Abigail Wilhelm Trust Fund at Wells Fargo.

Iles/Westover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
