William M. "Bill" Dailey Jr., 63, died Monday, Jan. 22, at his home in Westlake Village, Calif., of cancer. A memorial service will be at a later date in Westlake Village.
William M. "Bill" Dailey Jr. was born Nov. 27, 1943, near Roland, and grew up in Ames. He graduated from Ames High School in 1962 and from Iowa State University in 1967. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Following graduation he was employed by Allstate Insurance Company at their headquarters in Chicago, where he was a pioneer programmer and executive in the computer department. He remained with Allstate until the late 1980s when he took a position with Twentieth Century Insurance Company of Los Angeles as vice president for information services and remained there until his retirement.
He was a lifelong vacationer and later summer resident of Ten Mile Lake in northern Minnesota near Walker. He, as well as all his survivors, shared a summer home complex on Ten Mile Lake.
He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Dailey, of Middleton, Wis., and Amy (Clayton) Williams, of New Orleans; three grandsons, Kyle Dailey and Barrett and Hudson Williams; his mother, Laura Dailey, of Ames; and two sisters, Susan (Larry) Donaldson, of Nevada, and Christie Dailey, of Chicago. He is also survived by one uncle, Andrew (Carmen) Christensen, of Peoria, Ariz., and formerly of Ames; three aunts, Betty Christensen, of Nevada and formerly of Ames, Amanda (Fred) Brosius, of Ames, and Mary Lou (John) Nissly, of Iowa Falls; and several cousins and their families.
Memorials may be made to the Ten Mile Lake Association, Hackensack, Minn., or to cancer research.
