Ray Dykes, 74, of Bloomfield, died Friday, Feb. 2, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. The family will have a celebration of his life from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Ray Dykes was born June 28, 1932, in Ames, to Ace R. and Alice A. Blair Dykes. He married Elaine Longnecker June 16, 1953, in New York City, N.Y. He had been a resident of Davis County since 1969. He was a farmer and law enforcement officer. He served as sheriff of Davis County for 16 years. He was a member of the Davis County Cattlemen's Association, Farm Bureau, Retread Motorcycle Club and was a former member of the Iowa Sheriff and Deputies Association and American Trike Association.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Darvin (Kim) Dykes, of Bloomfield; one daughter, Dixie (Fred) Hickcox, of Ogden; three grandchildren, Clint Markley, Brock and Kyla Dykes; and one great-granddaughter, Alanna Markley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters; and two sisters.

Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to Hospice Inc. and Living Hope Bible Church.
