THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 3, 2007.

Loyd Yost Quinn, 89, of Ames, died Thursday, Feb. 1, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the First Christian Church in Ames. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Loyd Yost Quinn was born June 16, 1917, in Cutler, Ind., to Emery Lloyd and Velda Ruth (Yost) Quinn. He served as a Medical Soldier in World War II for 53 months of active duty. On June 9, 1945, he married Jeannette Bell in Frankfort, Ind. He received his doctorate in microbiology from Purdue University, and was a professor of microbiology at Iowa State University from 1949 until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of the American Society of Microbiology, Academy of Microbiology, Sigma XI, and Professor Emeritus of Microbiology (ISU). He was also a member of First Christian Church since 1949, where he was Elder Emeritus, Ames Kiwanis Club and Iowa Orchid Society. He raised orchids in a greenhouse at a former residence in Ames. He appreciated the beauty of God's creation and was a strong environmentalist.
Survivors include a sister, Beth Jackson, of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Cynthia Gaunt, of Ames, and Annette Spitsen, of McCloud, Calif.; two sons, Terrence Quinn, of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Kevin Quinn, of Honolulu, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; niece Lynn Chazanoff, of Marietta, Ga.; and sister-in-law Mrs. Richard Rowe, of Logan, Ohio.
His wife, Jeannette, preceded him in death Jan. 12, 2001.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Adams Funeral Home.
