THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 16, 2007.

Wendell "Pat" Kellogg, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 2. There will be a private memorial service.

Wendell "Pat" Kellogg was born Jan. 3, 1914, at home on the farm in Le Grand, the son of Dorothy and Sherman Kellogg. The family moved to Ames in 1928 where his passion for sports began, particularly basketball. He was the top scorer for the Ames High School basketball team and won an award in a free throw contest.

After graduating from Ames High School in 1933, Kellogg attended Iowa State University concentrating his studies in dairy industry and animal science. The war interrupted his studies, and he joined the Navy and was stationed in Los Angeles where he picked aircraft and worked in ship's service. He had developed a love for golf, and on his release from the Navy, he took a year off so he could hone his golf game at Veenker. He created a business in Iowa City in radiator repair, and a year later he returned to Ames where he began his long-term career in sales. He worked in retail clothing for Jamison's Clothing, investment securities for State Bond Mortgage Company, Rusco Windows and lastly as a realtor for 21 years for Friedrich Realty.

He met Alice Beese and they enjoyed several years of dancing to the big bands at the Val Air Ballroom before marrying Feb. 14, 1950. He was an avid fan of golf, baseball and college sports, particularly those of Iowa State University. Of course, his final joy has been his grandson, Sean. The only broken bone he experienced happened in his eighties while playing basketball with Sean. The love he shared with family and friends and his commitment to supporting his family in all their endeavors will always be cherished memories.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen; his son, John; and grandson, Sean.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, Leland.

Please send remembrances or stories of Pat to Karen at 305 E. O'Neil Dr., Ames, IA, 50010, or phone her at
232-2427.

Memorials may be gifted to the United Church of Christ-Congregational or the Ames Boys and Girls Club by sending them to the Kellogg family at the above address.
