NEVADA - Kenneth R. Jones, 78, of Nevada, formerly of Zearing, died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at his home.
Ken was born October 31, 1928 at State Center, Iowa, the son of Brantley and Cecil (Long) Jones. He served in the US Marine Corps. Ken was a farmer in the Zearing area until he retired in 1995 due to health reasons. He was united in marriage to Isabelle Carmody on April 19, 1949 in Zearing. He was a member of the Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was a former member of the Story County Planning and Zoning Commission, former president of the NESCO School Board, former Lincoln Township Trustee, past precinct chairperson of the Democratic Party of Lincoln Township, and was past president of the local chapter of the National Farmers Organization.
Ken is survived by his wife, Isabelle of Nevada; two daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Thomas Lord of Sioux Falls, SD, Deanne and Mark Skeens of Lakeville, MN; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Veva Everson of Hubbard, IA, Helen Settle of Marshalltown, IA and Audrey Norman of Union, Iowa.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna, in infancy; and 2 brothers: Leo Jones and Wayne Jones.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Burial was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
Memorials may be made to the Homeward Hospice and to the Good Samaritan Fund.
The Bacon Funeral Home of Nevada handled arrangements.
