Jerome L. "Jerry" Ahlquist, 58, formerly of Nevada, died Monday, Dec. 25, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Jerome Lee (Jerry) Ahlquist, 58, died Monday, Dec. 25, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown due to complications of multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed with MS in 1992, and had lived in the Veterans Home since October 1995. The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Jerry Lee Ahlquist was born July 14, 1948, in Boone, to Leonard and Carol Elaine (Staflin) Ahlquist. He was baptized in Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone and confirmed at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He graduated from Nevada Community High School in 1966. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Germany. After his time in the service, he lived in Alexandria, Minn., and most recently in Nevada.

He loved the outdoors, and was happiest when he was fishing or hunting. He loved to tell stories about the big one that got away, or the trophies he caught. He enjoyed being a guide for the Minnesota Governor's Open Fishing tournament as well as other tournaments throughout the state. He owned a sporting goods store in Alexandria, Minn., and owned the Boat Works in Ankeny before his illness.

He married Becky Bugler Feb. 1, 1974, and to this union three daughters were born.

He will be missed by his family. They include Leonard and Elaine Ahlquist, of Nevada; his sisters, Barbara (Gerald) McDaniel, of Nevada, and Cheryl (Duilio) Mordini, of Madrid; his daughters, Kelly (Clint) Snider and granddaughters, Kaitlin and Alexis, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Angela Ahlquist, of Atlanta, and Kathryn Ahlquist, of Des Moines; along with several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
