Catharine I. Wegner, 93, of Ames, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, with Rev. Joel Wight Hoogheem officiating. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.

Catharine I. Wegner was born Feb. 7, 1913, in St. Charles to Herman A. and Cora (Irwin) Mueller.

She received a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Iowa and was a school teacher in Kellogg and Winterset. She married Jack Sayre in June, 1938; he preceded her in death in 1978. She married Waldo Wegner May 19, 1979, in Bettendorf; he preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa, PEO Chapter LN (past president), Mary Greeley Hospital Auxiliary, AIOFA and AAUW. She had been a resident of Ames since 1979, having previously lived in Des Moines, Davenport and Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a son, Donald (Marcia) Sayre, of Murrysville, Pa.; daughters, Ellen Taylor (Harvey Harrison), of Des Moines, and Jane Brewer, of Muscatine; stepdaughter, Ann Kelsey, of Kansas; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Her parents; two husbands; and two brothers, Byron and Herman Mueller, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Adams Funeral Home.
