Roberta J. Smith, 71, of Ames, died Friday, Dec. 15, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Roberta Josephine Smith, 71, of Ames, died Friday, Dec. 15, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames with burial to follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Roberta Josephine Smith was born March 3, 1935, in Yankton, S.D., to Robert and Josephine Weiland. She graduated from Mount Marty High School and received her degree in theater from Mount Marty College in 1957. She worked at the Iowa State University Library.

Roberta married Ken Smith June 10, 1957, in Yankton, S.D.

She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Ames; two sons, Bruce (Julie) Smith, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Brian (Cathy) Smith, of Boone; two daughters, Glenda (Duane) Zavadil, of Sedalia, Colo., and Margo, (Scott) Cragle of Allen, Texas; and eleven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Robert Smith.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., in Ames.

Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
