Alta Kelly, 80, of Ames, died Friday, Nov. 17, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Alta Kelly was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Independence, Mo., to Howard F. and Esther Dougherty. She graduated from Graceland College, where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Kelly. They were married Sept. 1, 1950, in Independence, Mo. She was an active member of Community of Christ Church, headquartered in Independence, Mo. She immensely enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. She touched many lives, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Kelly, of Ames; two sons, Douglas Kelly, of Ames, and Brian (Sharon) Kelly, of Suwanee, Ga.; one daughter, Linda Smith, of Ames; six grandchildren, Ian, Shea, Afton, Jenna, Connor and Meghan; one brother, David (Sandee) Dougherty, of Independence, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Arielle Kelly; one son-in-law, Terry Smith; and one brother, Howard L. Dougherty.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Community of Christ Church in Ames.
