Charles Benjamin Nelson, 78, 816 Clark Ave, died about 1:15 am today at Mary Greeley Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 13. Born at Champaign, Ill., he came to Ames in 1897. He worked at a municipal light plant from 1905 until 1908, when he started the Nelson Electric Co. here. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Agatha; a son, Charles,who was associated with his father in the electric company and two grandsons, Paul and Jerry Nelson, both of Ames. He was preceded in death by a son, Ferrell Don and a daughter, Gweneth Arlene. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 pm from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence B. Beals, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial is to be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Gifts may be left at the First Methodist Church or the Ames Trust and Savings Bank.
