William Clayton
William Clayton, 85, of Jewell, died Friday, Nov. 10, at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Jewell. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
Visitation is Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Becker Funeral home in Jewell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Crestview Senior Living Activity Fund and William M. Clayton Music Scholarship Fund.
Becker Funeral Home, Jewell, is in charge of arrangements.

Sept. 26, 1921-Nov. 10, 2006William (Bill) Clayton, 85, of Jewell, died Friday, Nov. 10, at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jewell. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
William Junior Clayton was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Linn Grove, to William Joseph and Lula (Otten) Clayton. He grew up in the Humboldt area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Alison Coady Jan. 26, 1946, in Sandwich, Mass.
He attended Business College for two years in Boston. They moved to Jewell in 1952, where they owned and operated the variety store. He was a salesman traveling in Iowa for many years. Prior to retiring in 1986, he was a custodian for South Hamilton Schools. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jewell, the American Legion and served on the Jewell Park Board. He also was a 50-plus year member of the Lions Club and a charter member of the Lions Club in Humboldt and Jewell. He was an active community volunteer and received the Hamilton County Volunteer of the Year Award.
He is survived by his wife, Alison, of Jewell; one daughter, Barbara (David) Young, of Stanhope; one son, Jon Clayton, of Rohnert Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Brandsgard, of Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William M. Clayton and Paul J. Clayton; and one sister, Ora Robinson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.
Memorials may be given to Crestview Senior Living Activity Fund and William M. Clayton Music Scholarship Fund.
