Marie Harriett Buche

Marie Harriett Buche, 98, of Madrid, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.

Marie was born to James and Ruby (Van Dorn) Taylor on Oct. 13, 1908, at Polk City. She attended school in Sheldahl until her marriage on Aug. 22, 1925, to Louis F. Buche at Scranton. To this union were born six children: James (Helen) Buche of East Moline, Ill., Margaret (Roy) Picht of Ames, Phyllis Martens of Huxley, Velma (Don) Reese of Madrid, Irene (Larry) Dutton of Dunlap, Ill., and Charles (Darlene) Buche of Madrid.

Marie was a lifetime member of the Sheldahl United Methodist Church and the UMW, a member of Sun Dial Chapter NSDAR, a charter member of the Historical Associations in Polk City and Slater. She volunteered at the Clothes Pantry and Red Cross, and was an honored volunteer at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.

She was preceded in death by her husband Louis and daughter Irene; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

Surviving her are her children; her sister, Mildred Jacobson; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 23, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater. A memorial service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the United Methodist Church of Sheldahl. Memorials may be given to her church, the Big Creek Historical Society, the Slater Historical Association, or the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.
