William Wendall Upchurch
Nov. 25, 1933-Oct. 23, 2006

William Wendall Upchurch, 72, died Monday, Oct. 23,, at his rural home in Colo of complications of a heart ailment. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at United Methodist Church in Colo with Pastor James Roth and Chaplain James Tener officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. Interment and Masonic services will be at 1 p.m. in Colo Cemetery.

William (Bill) Upchurch was born Nov. 25, 1933, near Zearing, the son of Clyde and Zelma (Brake) Upchurch. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1951. He married Jarlyn Ouverson June 8, 1952 in Fertile. They moved to Enfield, Ill., and farmed for three years before moving to Colo in 1956. He was a member of Colo United Methodist Church, where he had served on the church board. He was a successful farmer who enjoyed every aspect of farming as well as being a devoted husband and father. Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, the cattle business and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He also was a member of Masonic Columbia Lodge No. 292, A.F. & A.M. and served as worshipful master.
He is survived by his wife, Jarlyn (Ouverson) Upchurch, of Colo; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Perry and Nancy Upchurch and Lindsay Upchurch, all of Colo, and Kendall and Sue Upchurch, of Zearing; one daughter, Julie Upchurch, of Coralville; 10 grandchildren, Amy Kohlwes, Jennifer Kelly, Tori Upchurch, Tonda Huckvale, Sara Clausen, Seth Upchurch, Nicolas Upchurch, Catherine Upchurch, Tia Upchurch-Freelove and Alexandra Upchurch; six great-grandchildren, Grant Huckvale, Jacob Huckvale, Josephine Kelly, Callie Kohlwes, Rylee Upchurch and William Clausen. He also is survived by four brothers, Byron Upchurch, of the Philippines, Bruce Upchurch, of Des Moines, Barry Upchurch, of Nevada, and Brent Upchurch, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one sister, Betty Arnold, of Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Bradford Upchurch.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established.
