John W. Elliott
Nov. 19, 1918 - Oct. 18, 2006

John W. Elliott, 87, formerly of Jefferson, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services and Masonic services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with interment in the Jefferson Cemetery.

John William Elliott was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Emmet County, to Floyd and Flora (Buswell) Elliott. He attended school in Jefferson and joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and was stationed in the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1945.

Elliott and Nedra Beaty were married June 7, 1942, in Bethany, Mo. They made their home in Jefferson until moving to Story City in 2003. Elliott worked as a groundman (special) for Midland Power Cooperative for 57 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl (Leonard) Pierce, of Bloomington, Minn., and Connie (Donald) Heim, of Ames; five grandchildren, Sean (Jenna) Dowling, of Story City, Michael (Annette) Pierce, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Pamela (George) Saba, of Glendale, Ariz., Julie (Robert) Cattanach, of Ames and Donna (Jamie) Ostrander, of Carroll; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Darrel) Cory, of Boone and Rita (Melvin) Clark, of Des Moines; and three brothers, Richard (Margaret), of Boerne, Texas, Harold, of Jefferson, and Eldon (Shirley) of Fulton, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nedra; one sister, Marguerite Cavallier; and four brothers, Robert, John, Donald and Eugene.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation with the family will precede the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Bethany Life Communities in Story City.
