Richard O. Dunblazier

Richard O. Dunblazier, 80, of Port Richey, Fla., died Sunday, July 16, 2006, in Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in Port Richey.

He was born in Oelwein, moved to the Maxwell area at a young age, then moved to Port Richey from the Ankeny area about 20 years ago, when he retired from working as a departmental foreman at the John Deere Company after 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, World War II, serving most of the time in the South Pacific area: Okinawa, Tarawa, Tinian (where the Enola Gay was based), Iwo Jima and the Bikini Atoll. After being discharged in 1957, he went to work at the John Deere plant in Ankeny, where he worked until he retired in 1984.

Preceding him in death were both his parents: his father, Charles, of Astoria, Ill., and his mother, Ruth C. Postal, of New Port Richey, Fla. Also, his only brother, Tom, of Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of 54 years of marriage; a son, David, at home; a daughter, Ruth Anne Ferris (husband, Tom) of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Ronald (wife, Rosalyn) of Maxwell; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Rae Vasey of Maxwell.

No services are planned. Arrangements were made by Faupel Funeral Home in Port Richey, Fla.
